Health Insurance Requirement for International Students

All F-1 and J-1 visa students at Frostburg State University must have student medical insurance. This protects your health and your finances, since U.S. medical costs are very high. Insurance from other countries often does not meet U.S. standards. Below are the required minimum coverages:

✔ $150,000 coverage per accident or illness

✔ $100,000 repatriation of remains

✔ $150,000 for medical evacuation to your home country

✔ Deductible not more than $500 per accident or illness

✔ Student pays no more than 25% of covered medical costs

✔ Coverage must include all risks in the exchange visitor program

✔ Insurance company must have an A.M. Best rating of "A-" or higher

Good news: Frostburg State University offers an affordable insurance plan that meets all U.S. Department of State requirements. The cost is about $100 per month. The premium is billed with your tuition and paid in six-month installments.

Exchange students and students graduating in less than six months will only be charged for the time they are enrolled at FSU.
